“Some people may find it hard to imagine what flowers ‘sound’ like. Therefore, I compared the lives of flowers to the lives of humans by describing the many phases of our lives; in doing so, we can ‘hear’ and identify the similarities between ourselves and the flowers.” - Taichung World Flora Exposition Ambassador, Wu Qing-feng

Taichung World Flora Exposition Ambassador Wu Qing-feng has created the theme song of the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition, titled “Please Listen”. The lyrics incorporate many facets of life, such as babies crying, lovers’ whispering, and the lively banter between family members. By comparing our lives with that of flowers, people can imagine a flower’s life as similar to that of a human’s. Through this, Wu Qing-feng hopes to share the story behind the slogan of the Flora Expo – The Sound of Blooming.

Please Listen

Lyrics/Music/Performed By: Wu Qing-feng

The earth is like a gently cooing mother

A sprouting seed is like a crying baby

The leaves along the stem are like the mirthful laughter of youth

A flower bud waiting to bloom is like the whispering of lovers

Silently, they each lead vibrant lives

Nature is a treasure trove of secrets

Since when did humans cease to notice?

Even a simple act of crying cannot occur naturally

Using my heart, I listen to yours

Hearing what I didn’t hear before

Using your heart, listen to mine

Cherishing our honey-sweet memories

Listening to and hearing each other

We become kindred spirits

Flowers blooming all around are like a bustling family

A weathered and magnificent tree is like the wise words of an elder

Fallen petals are the sigh of old age

A sweet fruit is the melody of the soul

Using my heart, I listen to yours

Hearing what I didn’t hear before

Using your heart, listen to mine

Cherishing our honey-sweet memories

Listening to and hearing each other

We become kindred spirits

They are the most serene, yet the most beautiful

Hiding many secrets, waiting to be discovered

When you learn to cherish them as fellow living beings

When you learn to open your heart, you will understand yourself better
